The Forces of Chaos...

ADD and wargaming goes hand in hand with me. Every week I get the itch to play a different army just because I might be reading an old battle report or looking through a codex. With the Nightlords Terminator Commander done, to continue with my Nightlords kick, I started on stripping some of my old metal raptor models to redo them as since these were some of my first models that I painted, they dont look as good as the rest of my army. You would think that after I stripped them, I would then re-base them, prime them, and paint them. The answer is nope as I started with updating my Chaos Daemons army first. The Daemon army needed to have some work done on them as right now I really didnt have much painted for them and still had models that I needed to put together. Among these models, Fateweaver himself which I bought about 2 years ago when he first came out in metal and just never got to putting him together and a squad of Pink horrors which again I bought and just forgot about. I took the time and actually worked on both sets of models, getting them together and actually painting them. Since the daemon army as a whole is more "organic", I went with a fast and quick way to paint them which would still give me the results that I wanted. I decided to use a "staining" technique and primed all my horrors white. Once they were primed I just took a red wash and "washed" the models multiple times to get the desired pink color that I wanted for them. After picking out the details with graveyard earth, bleached bone, and boltgun metal, these models were done. With Kairos Fateweaver, as he is meant to be the center point of the army, I took a little longer with him. Instead of staining, I went with a series of blues which I applied in layers at first and then dry brushed to pick out the details. As you can see from the pics, i just need to finish their bases and they will be done. The list I am running is pretty much a Slaaneshi/Tzeentch themed list with some bloodcrushers as my hammer unit. Below is my list at 1750 points -

The bloodcrushers were a gift to me by the old store manager at my local FLGS who gave me the unit after I painted them for his store. After playing the army for several weeks now, I can say that the army isnt bad. In my last 4 games, I have won twice, tied once, and lost once to Grey knights.

I am definitely going to get more bloodcrushers and maybe a unit or 2 of bloodletters as these guys certainly can take anybody apart and seeing that I am facing more grey knight armies as well, opting for some flesh hounds as well who with the blessing of the blood god are pretty much unstoppable unless dark excoummincation is cast. I might have to pick up skulltaker as well as his stats are just awesome for his points cost. This weekend GW is also releasing a herald of tzeentch on a disc of tzeentch so I will also be picking him up to add more shooting to my army. Let me know what you guys think of the list and if you have some more pointers on using the army, I would love to hear them.

40K Tourney - Part 3

Today marked the last round of Games-workshop 3 month Tournament. I actually was thinking of not playing this round as I am sure that I am out of contention due to the fact that I lost in the 2nd round, but I decided to be "available" to the manager in case he needed someone to fill in. He actually did ask me if I wanted to play in the tourney, I told him sure as I was bored just looking for an open table. I took a real "dick" list, a chaos dual lash list as my thinking was I would love to play one of the "top" people and knock them out of placing, I guess I was feeling a little jealous to be honest, I should have won the 2nd round game but due to some unlucky dice and the game ending on turn 5, I lost it. This army is made up of my pre-hersey Thousand Sons with some Nightlord "allies"

I took 2 lash sorcerers, 2 squads of Thousand sons in Rhinos, 1 chosen squad with 2 meltas and 2 plasma guns in a Rhino, my infamous suicide terminator squad with 4 combi-plasmas, 1 heavy flamer, 2 power fists, 2 vindicaters, and 2 Oblits. Lash combined with vindicaters and oblits is pretty obvious but thousand sounds with the aspiring sorcerer with Wind of chaos is just plan nasty. I played against a very fluffy eldar Saim-haim (did I spell that right) jetbike list that was made up of all jetbikes, a farseer on a jetbike, and an Auturch on a jetbike. Once I knew that his farseer did not have runes of warding, I knew the game was going to go my way and my way it went. By the end of turn 6, he had a wave serpent, the farseer with a wound, and one jetbike left. Ended up winning the game 9 to 5 kill points. My opponent is a nice guy and he was gracious even in losing. I have known him for a while now but this was the first time I played him in a tournament setting. I hope GW does more of these tournaments, it brings out a lot of players that we get to play against and makes great practice for all of the "paid" tourneys. The Imperial Vox Cast boys will be holding their first tournament later in August, I might want to go to that to meet them and a chance to play in another tournament. Pics are of some of my army that I used, I have yet to take pictures of the whole army. For now, back to painting some more chaos...

The Glory of Chaos...

Ok so its back to work on my Chaos space marines/Space Wolf army. I finished base coating my next squad of 10 and I finished building and priming my first Chaos warhound/Fensrian Wolf squad. To add to all of the painting madness, I got a very flattering request, the local manager at my local FLGS asked if I could paint some of the new plastic bloodcrushers for him and get this, if I do it, I get to keep them after he uses them as a display until they are officially released. I couldn't pass this up especially since I am starting a Daemon's army.

As I mentioned in my last post, I am building a daemons army around bits and models I had lying around over the course of collecting Chaos models for the last 6 years. After trying out the army twice now I must say that the army is a lot of fun to play but having your "destiny" decided on a dice roll could make you or break you depending on if you get your preferred wave. I did get my preferred wave in both of these games which has made both games go in my favor.

Still, its a lot of fun and makes for a different army to use that you don't see that often. The plastic Bloodcrushers look amazing with each model posed in a different way. I would love to add these to my new army; and as I am on a 2 week deadline per the manager to get these done I am putting all other projects on hold. Pics are the Bloodcrushers at about 90% done. Let me know what you think..

The Lure of Chaos...again...

Arrgh, so again the lure of chaos has called me again, again I am building a new chaos army... sorry my Sisters of battle, I am inspired to get another chaos army to the desktop, that and GW pulling the rug out of my idea by killing the ally system. My sisters will still be a focus but due to Games-workshop releasing their codex as a PDF, we came to find out that the ally system that I was going to use (with my Black Templars) is no longer valid. Well that or you can ask your opponent if its ok seems to be the answer which is pretty lame, why not just admit that you can't ally or you can and be done with it. I do own the codex however, I dont want to be in a position where every game with them is going to start with, "uh, are you ok with me using Sisters with my black templars?" As such, I am going to have to build an entire witch-hunters army if I ever want to field them without any questions; that or play some apocalypse. Lucky for me, I picked up 2 of the old imperial guard storm troopers metal box sets at a GW Bizarre Bazaar dirt cheap to use as inquisitorial storm troopers bringing my model count for the sisters to almost 70 models. Now I just need to get some Exorcist tanks and I should have a full army.
For my new Chaos army, I will be using the space wolf codex after playing against it numerous times and wanting to try a different take on it.

I listened to the 11th company's podcast several episodes back when Pat had Goatboy on and the list he described sounded like a lot of fun to play. After taking a look at the codex and finding old models to use, I found that it would take very little for this army to come about and it would seem very chaos like. I bought the Khorne lord on a juggernaut almost 2 years ago when it came out as the model is gorgeous. This will be the basis for my army; a Khorne lord riding a juggernaut to be my count as wolf lord on a thunderwolf mount. For the color scheme I am doing a pre-Hersey scheme, blue trim with the majority of the army in white that I am also washing black to make it appear dark grey and dingy.

I really cant stand to paint normal marines, they are just too plain for me and I love the ornate power armor that Chaos marines have. Attached are pics of my new Chaos army first squad (count as Grey Hunters). Let me know what you think.... I plan on having the next 5 guys in the next squad done by next week.

40K Tournament - Round 2...

So this past Saturday marked the 2nd round of Games-Workshop 1750 40K tournament. Coming in with a win I really was excited to see who and what army I would be facing. I took the same army as last month (Pre-Hersey Thousand Sons) however I did change it up a bit. I took Artimus the Twisted (count as Kharn) and played with cheaper Thousand Sons units due to victory points killing me the last time. Upon getting there and having the manager roll up my random opponent, I got to play a Space Marine player with a unique hammer unit. After my opponent deployed, I saw that he had put down a landraider crusader with some thunder hammer storm shields termies and a chaplain. Just because I like to be open about my army and after I explained my army to him, I asked if their was anything special regarding the squad. To my surprise I found out that I was facing Lysander, Grey Knight termies, and a Chaplain. I just smiled at my opponent and said, gee glad I asked. I am all about "count as" armies however I hate it when players don't even tell you what a model is unless you ask them. It just seemed that this guy wasn't going to spoil the surprise unless I asked him. First couple of turns went my way or as best as they could based on my horrible dice rolls. My MVP's of last month, my Rhino mounted Havocs with 4 melta guns just became a speed bump for my opponents hammer unit. By turn 5, I was down by 2 kill points and needed that turn 6 to possibly win the game, I had Lysander and his chaplain down to 1 wound and only one grey knight left on the side of the table that my army was at. Alas, It wasn't meant to be, I rolled and got a 2 ending the game. Though my opponent pulled a "cheesy move" in the beginning, through out the game he was a blast to play with and was a gracious winner. At least I beat him in victory points so I got the moral victory... lol. Pics are of some of the units I used in the game, I will upload better pics of the army in my next posts

Transport time...

Okay, so I now have 2 squads of sisters done and to complete my "allied" army I need to paint up some transports. I still cant believe that I have almost 20 sisters painted, now all I need to do is paint up a rhino and an immolater and my sisters part of the army is done for now anyways. I still have almost 25 more sisters to paint which I will get to once I pick up some Exorsist tanks so that I can run just a sisters army without any allies.. I am tempted to hold off as I don't know what the future will hold for Sisters of Battle, hopefully new plastic Exorsists. If I ever do them, I am just going to take Space Marine Whirlwinds and convert them as the current model one is just damn too expensive. Pics of my Immolater that is about half way done. Hopefully I will get this done by this weekend to start on the next one.

Getting back on Track...

Well the good thing is i'm back to working on my sisters of battle. After a couple of days "off" its back to business. Memorial day kind of came by surprise for me and my wife, we scrambled to get to the business of going away for the weekend and spent a wonderful weekend in San Diego visiting such favorite spots such as Coronado and the Gaslamp District. Well, I can say is that I am done with my Dominion squad as well as my "count as" Cannoness. Pics are my finished Dominion Flamer squad complete with Veteran Sister Superior and my Cannoness. I used the variant Sorcha model which will upset some warmachine fans. I had this model laying around and her ice hammer makes a great blessed weapon. I just don't care for the cannoness model that GW currently has. I just hope that when they do re-do them they put out a plastic model with lots of options similar to how they did the plastic Chaos Terminator lord. Options and plastic please, metal is getting very old. Now it time to work on some transports for them before I get started on my next sisters squad. Got to take a break from painting Sisters.
